For example, I recall an instance where, someone came in with a Patek Philippe and the thing wouldn’t run because a part was broken. This process took several days and an extremely skilled watchmaker to do the job right.

You got to act quickly when a watch gets all wet, ’cause if you don’t, it’ll only become more severe. Then we take out all the dirty parts, clean thoroughly the mechanisms, and if needed, replace anything that’s completely damaged.
One distinctive case was a client’s Rolex Submarine Diver Watch that had been submerged in saltwater. The watch had developed a severe corrosion, and the engine was in poor condition.
